I really feel like a like such a slouch lately, trying to keep up with the current affairs of blogsylvania, trying to post a little something, and not being able to because of time constraints (and the material I have is so lush too, DAMNIT!).
Some explanation is that we had opened up the new dining room on April first, so our seating has doubled. On top of that we started serving dinner this past Thursday and this means that I also am training five new people and tomorrow morning it will be six...
And then there is the drama...
And of course the cooking & baking....
Made some Crusty Fried Oysters & Frog Legs!
And Baked some Napoleons -
As I was explaining this new strange confection to my staff, one of my hillbilly waitresses interrupted me and blurted:
"So, is it like a Eee Clare?"
I replied, "Yes, just tell the people that it's like an eclair.
And that'll be just fine."...
Hoping to find more time for fun,
w

DeletePUPPIES? YOU'LL HAVE PLENTY TO POST.

My teats already hurt!
Holy-Molly-Saint-Helens! I've just been stuck by lightening!
ReplyDelete(Get it? Lightening = éclair... in French?... Never mind!)
I don't know if the Frenchs actually call this delicious pastry "Napoleon" but over here in Québec, you'd better ask for a "Mille-Feuilles" (Thousand Leaves) cause Napoleons are an entirely different thing here! ;)
Lucky puppies!
Hugs
Jon
I had not known that about the lightning, but it makes perfect sense. The lore of the pastry, which dates back, considerably, to France, certainly had a different name.
DeleteLegend says that this pastry was Napoleon's favorite thing; hence the name change.
Interestingly enough, probably the only place on the entire planet that this sweet is not known as a Napoleon is Quebec....
And I think that that is just fine!

I love Hillbilly Speak.
ReplyDeleteWhenever someone in Smallville asks me where I'm from--or asks me "Who're y'all's kin?"--I always say, "I've lived in South Carolina my whole life."
"Really? Y'all don't sound like yer from here."
"Um, that's because I graduated from the 8th grade."
Making friends left and right.
I loves me some frog legs!!!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteRight now I'm on a lead getting in touch with a local frogger....
I just can't wait!
